An Applied Self-Care and Skills-Building Workshop
Over the past few years, the demands and pressures on front-line workers have been relentless and unforgiving. This two-day workshop is designed to increase the everyday self-care capacities, resilience, and job effectiveness of those working in today’s demanding frontline situations.
Participants learn a complimentary combination of practical skills and habit-forming techniques to attend to their own health, safety, and resilience and to enhance their personal job effectiveness and performance. They will learn to stay both calm and alert in midst of the storm.
This workshop will be of particular interest to people working as first responders, peace and security officers, health care professionals of all kinds, telephone and online quality assurance personnel, public complaint handlers, and others dealing directly with highly emotional or volatile situations.
Topics covered include principles and practices of trauma-informed service delivery, mindfulness and self-care, improvisational flexibility, and effective engagement and conflict management with others.
Generous opportunity for both self-reflection and skills-building exercises are given, and participants are encouraged to draw on both their own experiences and those of the other participants in the positive and supportive learning environment created by our experienced practitioners and trainers.
Learning will take place through a combination of online pre-workshop individual preparation, and interactive teaching methods including short lectures, panels, case studies, videos, demonstrations, small group discussions, interactive exercises, simulations, practice drills, and role plays.
Participants should be prepared for some work prior to the commencement of the workshop and during the evenings to prepare for exercises and simulations the following day. Some of the material covered will involve difficult scenarios, including situations alleging discrimination, harassment, incompetence, and use of personally insulting and aggressive behaviour and language.
Cost: $1200 per participant. Discounts of $150 per participant will be given to organizations sending 3 or more participants to the workshop.
